Blame it on the rain or the chilly weather (Have you noticed here in Los Angeles the weather app promises 72 degrees but somehow every day it ends up a high of 60?), but I have been dreaming of a summer vacation for months. Of course, I haven’t done anything about it and now most of the good rentals are already taken. For those of you who have procrastinated but are now excited to escape, I was able to find six last minute options for the vacation of your dreams. From coast to coast, and in between, here are some great places to escape to!
$300,000 per month 8 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms 6,742 square feet There are so many areas of Malibu I love, but Villa Sole enjoys one of my favorites, in the ''Celebrity Bluff Row'' section above Malibu Road. Set over approximately 1.55 acres with phenomenal views, the house is located moments from Nobu, Soho House, Malibu Pier and world-class beaches and hiking trails. And with those views, that pool, and that tennis court, who would need to leave?
$200,000 per month for July and/or August 7 bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms 5,500 square feet While many of us dream of being beachfront in the Hamptons for summer, it’s the rare few who can get there. One of my nicest summer weeks was spent with my friends Douglas and Zoe at their East Hampton beach rental near town. It was so nice to walk to town to write at Starbucks first thing in the morning, take long runs, and hang out in the yard sipping wine and listening to the birds. Since then I’ve always had a soft spot for places near East Hampton village. This remodeled 1933 colonial would be the perfect place to unwind.
$60,000 per week depending on availability 8 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms Square Footage Unknown I admit I know nothing about Nantucket, but a close friend goes every year so it’s piqued my interest. I spent a long time going through leases (what was available as of now… not much) and I landed on this one. I love the views, the classic Nantucket feel, and the pool. And it’s the perfect place to entertain extended family (check out that three bedroom guest house).
$175,000 per month for short term 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms 4,132 square feet When I first moved to Los Angeles, I used to visit Malibu Beach on weekends, so it holds a soft spot in my heart. This soft, woodsy modern two-story beach house has a great flow. That dining room is perfect spot for a dinner party and the living room is great for easy afternoon lounging.
$75,000 per month 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms Square Footage Unknown While I can’t personally vouch for the rest of the rentals on this list (go, and give me a review!), this one I can. I visited here many years ago in a land far far away, and remember the magic of this house on one of my favorite beaches in the world. There are very few homes on exclusive Padaro Beach near Montecito in Carpinteria, California. This is one of the smaller homes, but also one of the most charming.
$35,250 per month 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms 3,500 square feet For those of you who don’t know the Lake Geneva area in Wisconsin, it has a very cool past. Once called “The Newport of the West” and a summer escape for wealthy Chicago and Milwaukee families (think the Wrigleys), Lake Geneva has an extraordinary lake with a cute town, premier golf, and is only a short car ride from Chicago. The summer supply was limited at this point, but this cottage had me at the screen porch and the description as a “former hideout for Chicago’s notorious gangsters in the ‘30s”. There’s nothing like the Midwest in the summer (humidity, mosquitoes and all).
