Trousdale Estates

Once dotted with some of Los Angeles’s most storied mid-century houses.

Welcome to Trousdale Estates

The Scoop

Located in the hills of Beverly Hills, Trousdale estates is named for Paul Trousdale, who developed the area in 1954. Once dotted with some of Los Angeles’s most storied mid-century houses (think houses designed by A. Quincy Jones, Hal Levitt, et al.), now some of the houses have been “renovated” or torn down completely to make way for stark, new construction moderns.

The Vibe

An interesting intersection of old school mid-century stalwarts (some who have actually lived there since the mid-century) and tycoons who paid for the their houses with their IPO money.

The Coffee Shop at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Boutiques on and near Rodeo Drive, Porta Via for a killer Cobb Salad, Dr. Harold Lancer for dermatology, Dr. Brian Novack for that nip-tuck, stylist Catherine Bloom at Neiman Marcus, the Beverly Hills Library (where I wrote a lot of my first novel), the Cactus Garden on Bedford, Avra for Greek food in a “who’s-who among the olive trees” setting.
